"A Passion for Detail"

Local and internationally known sculptor, Charles Rice, grew up in a small town in Oklahoma. He was influenced by the outdoors, nature, and many American Indian people that he came in contact with daily. From his earliest recollections he always had a pencil in hand sketching Indians, feathers, birds, animals, or something he wanted to build.

From the very beginning, Charles had an eye for detail. He began his artistic career in jewelry-making more than thirty years ago, attracted to it's fine craftsmanship and detail. Much of that detail can be seen in every one of his bronze sculptures.

Because of his dedication to the quality of his sculptures, he spends many hours researching and studying his subject before beginning every piece. Once he begins a piece of sculpture, he gets lost in the creation and spends many hours working late into the night. He feels it is vital that every sculpture tell a story and bring past feelings and emotions back to the present.

Charles is self-taught and believes that an artist is born with the emotion and spirit for creating beauty, and is internally driven to use those gifts. His work can be seen in a variety of places, including galleries, homes, and offices in Texas, the US. and Europe. Charles Rice's sculpture, Texas Ranger, is part of the permanent collection on display at the Texas Rangers museum in Waco, Texas.

As anyone can plainly see when they look at one of Charles Rice's sculptures, the art is in the detail. He is very much an artist with "A Passion for Detail."
